Sun Worshiping in Portugal’s Algarve

The southern coastline of Portugal is a breathtaking stretch of sand and soaring cliffs that look like a sketch in an explorer’s journal.

We just had to check it out!

Home to some of the most scenic beaches in the world, it has become a destination hotspot for sunbathers, hikers, and mediocre beach badminton enthusiasts of any ilk. And for good reason…

Dotted here and there with caves and rocky columns, this coast is an adventurer’s paradise. It’s sandy coves and warm, clear water make it the perfect place to unroll the ol’ beach towel and contemplate never leaving.

For the serious adventurer, there are even uninhabited beaches that can be discovered with a little more effort (and proper shoes), and still others can that only be accessed by boat.

From Lagos to Albufeira to Faro, the small, seaside cities and villages provide all one needs for the complete Algarve experience: cheap vacation rentals, swanky boutique hotels, cool bars, colourful shops, and a plethora of restaurant options.

It’s a slice of heaven.

Tripling its population in the summer months, the Algarve region is best visited in the shoulder seasons… but really, anytime one can get there would be a win.

And despite the throngs of tourists, it’s easy to find a quiet stretch of beach in the evenings for a gentle stroll with your feet in the surf.
